G: 22 June: Arpette to La Fouly

This is day 3 and weather is definitely improving. Warmer and dryer. Despite our remoteness we get fresh bread delivered with our lunch provisions each morning in large sacks.

This is a long day's walking but now we are into it and no longer worrying about fitness levels. We stayed high up bypassing Champex-Lac - this saved on a bit of descent and re-ascent. We had lots of mini lectures on the wildflowers and moraines etc, all in French and too hard to comprehend. We went through lots of nice little hamlets. The wild flowers were amazing in quality and variety. We did not go through any particularly high mountain pass today. We had one long descent before La Fouly which was a bit slippy and easy to come a cropper on as one of our group found out.

La Fouly was a quaint little place and very remote. Here we had our first opportunity to go into a shop. We invested in plastic cups so we could participate in coffee at lunch stops. There was even an ATM. We had a beer at the local bar before trekking on to the gite.

We had the room in the top with ensuite but rather low headroom. Its definitely an advantage being a couple as often there was a double room slightly superior to the others.

Great views looking down .

Wild thyme (? I think)
Dragonfly (une libellule)

This is a typical "Raccard" used for grain and fodder storage:

At last I have discovered where the gnomes of Zurich come from, this must be their breeding ground:

Our first sighting of a Chamois:

Dinner was always a very sociable affair;
