We continued with our French classes this week, perhaps in a slightly more relaxed manner.
More students arrived on Sunday night so we made our acquaintances with them as best we could - over dinner. It was French in the morning with break after lunch and then a cooking class. This was followed by dinner where it was necessary to eat what we cooked. This provided the incentive to get it right. Instructions in French did not prove a problem, it was easy enough.
At a couple of the cooking classes we had local people join us for a session. Conversation with them was possible but more difficult. We put it down to the local accent, not our ability or lack thereof.
On Wednesday the afternoon was free so we visited the Chateau de Mont Roche about 30 km away. We were entertained by the lady of the chateau posing as one of the original inhabitants. This is quite a unique folly built on the edge of the Loire, almost surrounded by water and based on an old fortified house and embellished in the early 20 century in the style of a medieval chateau.
On Friday pm we visited the boat in the Port belonging to one of the students - a dutch lady who with her husband has made this their home for the last 10 years. It was quite luxurious and it seemed to be an ideal way to spend retirement. The vessel is capable of sea voyages and has access to lots of waterways for cruising away the summers.
Friday evening was a special dinner with presentations of certificates etc and plenty of au revoirs.
Altogether the last two weeks has been a great experience - we made a good choice with this school and the combination of cooking and language lessons worked well. The other students were good company and our discussions over dinner great fun.
Tomorrow (Sat 19 June) we drive to Chamonix, stay overnight at a hotel and commence the trek around Mont Blanc on Sunday. Next blog will be in approx 2 weeks probably from Scotland.
