Woke at 4.30 am and took 4.57 am "Hoppa" bus to terminal 3. Unaware that airport was closed due to ash, however screens showed our SAS flight was still programmed to depart. Self check-in took about 8 attempts to work - probably due to the Copenhagen to Moscow flight not being available as SAS staff had only just arrived and needed to activate something. Had time for quick breakfast before boarding.
Flight was only delayed 40 mins as airport had been closed from1 am due to ash but reopened at 7 am. Arrived Moscow at 3.15 pm. Everything very efficient and civilized compared to Heathrow and the mob behaviour there at the carousel.
ATM worked fine with Wizard MC and paid 1500 rubles at counter for taxi to River Port on Leningrad highway. It was a great feeling to check into our cabin on the Viking Sarkov and know we did not have to lug suitcases for next 12 days.
Took brief stroll along wharf, where there were dozens of other cruise boats berthed. Photographed nice wooden kiddies playground complete with empty vodka bottle at top of the slide - they start them early here.
Evidently the waterway is connected to all of Russia's seas. The spiel said that construction of the canal exceeded the feats of the Panama and Suez, without the Yellow Fever no doubt.
Lovely dinner and sunset over the Moscow Canal.
